First off, in my last journal I talked about the freelance work I did with DoubleJump books on the Disgaea 2 strategy guide. We finished the eGuide a week or two ago, and the print version is nearing completion. We've got to fine-tune a few things and add some minor bits of info, but otherwise it is nearly done. It will be available as a Print-on-demand only (so it won't be available in retail stores like a lot of the past guides they've done) but surprisingly, it's a bit cheaper than previous Print-on-demand guides they've done. Their other PoD guides have averaged about $40, but this one should be only $25. Seems like a lot, but considering the fact that these are printed on higher quality paper than the guides DoubleJump has printed in-house, as well as a number of other things, it ends up being a fairly decent deal. Especially if you like picking up these books as collectors items (as a lot of people do.) You can expect it available October 5th, but you can preorder it now on the doublejumpbooks.com website.

The second bit of info is regarding some of my comic projects. Over the years, I've tossed ideas around for about a half-dozen different stories to use as comics. However, only two of these have I ever really fleshed out. Two of them, I've been developing since high-school (which for me means that I've been jotting down ideas, sketching characters, and whatnot) for about the last 8-10 years. Eep. Only as of the last couple years, however, do I really feel confident in anything I've created. This is due to refining my writing and drawing a bit.
Anyone who has ever visited my page will probably notice that I've never really submitted much work. I've always been a bit hesitant to submit descriptions of characters, character names, details of my plots, even the title to my main story, due to the fact that I've always had a nagging worry in the back of my mind that someone may snatch some of my ideas, so I've always withheld almost everything regarding my main storyline. That said, the untitled comic I've been submitting is a tiny fragment of this story. I've recently had a couple people tell me that I have decent ideas, and I should be a bit cautious about revealing too many of them.
Generally, I have a pretty trusting nature, but over the course of time, I've seen probably a dozen friends and/or fellow DA members have their ideas or artwork stolen or just used with no permission or credit to the artist. That's pretty lame, but considering the frequency at which this happens, I think I'm not going to divulge any more info on my main story line except to close, real-life family and friends. I just don't want to risk spending a decade building up a story, only to have it stolen overnight. I may or may not remove the 5 pages of my untitled comic I have posted so far, but I'm still debating it...
On the other hand, although I sort of abandoned the project about a year ago, I'll probably pick back up work on the "Paranorma" comic I recently posted a couple pages of. This was kind of a generic comic, with a bit of a cliche idea, but I just wanted to do it for fun and practice. If someone steals those ideas then, well, whatever. No real harm done. It'd still make me mad, but not as mad as losing my main story, which I someday plan to publish and print.
Final thing is more details on commissions. Since I've done very few commissions as of yet, I'm going to attempt to give some fairly low prices compared to other people who do commissions. Not that I want to undercut myself; I just figure that I'll cut a deal to these early people so I can get in a more comfortable pace of doing commissions at.
That said, most people tend to charge about $10 for a sketch, $20 for an ink, and $30-$40 for a color, for a single character, and $5 or so for an additional character.
For me, I'll charge; $7 for a sketch, $15 for a single character, and unfortunately, I have no real way of coloring as of right now (plus, I need to practice a bit more before I start offering those types of projects to people.) I'll also add $5 per additional character. Complex backgrounds will be a bit more too, considering the additional time and materials that will go into it, but I'll still keep it fairly reasonable. Send me a note if you want me to do something for you. Only real rules I have is that I won't do anything sexually explicit.
...Um....class is dismissed.
